ISdAC present at the ICAT 2003 conferenceOn Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 December 2003 the ‘International Conference on Assistive Technology 2003’ (ICAT 2003) takes place in London. This conference is being organised by the BCS Disability Group, an organisation that dedicates itself for the improvement of the quality of life of people with a disability. Therefore it encourages the computer industry to consider the needs of disabled persons as early as in the design phase. At the closing stages of the European year for people with a disability, ICAT wants to draw attention to the ever growing possibilities that ICT offers to disabled persons. Besides it is being investigated if people in government and business circles are aware of the commercial benefits when a Design For All approach is already considered in the design phase. Apart from the numerous debates and presentations on this topic, there is also an exhibition on the first day of the conference, giving the participants the possibility to gather information and user experience out of first hand about the way physical and sensorial barriers for people with a disability are overcome. It speaks for itself that ISDAC can’t be absent at this conference. Our organisation will be represented by our Chairman, Tony Verelst. He will give a presentation on the first day of the conference, where he will present to the audience some of the results that the IPCA and IRIS project have produced in terms of user involvement in Design for All. We hope that this conference will bring us some new insights and, who knows, maybe we will be able to make some interesting contacts. Download the brochure of ICAT 2003.
